Fire Crystal — Furnace Lv. 30 to unlock, and undoing an upgrade refunds only half

Fire Crystal content unlocks when your Furnace reaches Lv. 30 and the server has been running for a certain amount of time. Undo an upgrade and common resources come back in full, speedups do not come back at all, and Fire Crystals come back at half.

Fire Crystal is the second half of Whiteout Survival's progression, and the point where a mistake becomes expensive rather than annoying. Century Games publishes the four things you need before you start spending.

When it unlocks

When your Furnace reaches Lv. 30 and the server has been activated for a certain amount of time. Both conditions, not either. Hitting Furnace 30 early on a young server does not open Fire Crystal content — the server gate is separate and the publisher does not state its length. So if you are at 30 and seeing nothing, you are not bugged and there is no item to buy; you are waiting on the server.

What actually changes

The official difference is short: Fire Crystal buildings have a brand-new appearance, and Fire Crystal troops have more powerful stats and skills. Note the asymmetry — buildings get a look, troops get power. That is the whole argument for prioritising the buildings that gate troop tiers over the ones that just look different.

The refund rule, which is the important one

You can undo a Fire Crystal upgrade on a building. Here is what comes back:

  • Common resources — returned in full.
  • Speedup items — not returned at all.
  • Fire Crystals — returned at half.

Read that as a pricing sheet for indecision. Undoing costs you every speedup you burned and half of the scarcest currency in the game. Which leads to a rule we would give anyone entering Fire Crystal: decide your building order before you spend, and do not speed up a building you are not certain about. Let an uncertain upgrade run on its own timer — if you change your mind, you lose half the crystals instead of half the crystals plus every speedup you owned.

Who you can attack for points

Once you are in Fire Crystal territory, the targeting question comes up immediately, and the official answer is mechanical rather than strategic: for chiefs with Furnace Level 30 or above, castles from which you can gain points will be shown to be attackable. In other words the client is the source of truth. If a castle shows as attackable, it is worth points; if it does not, no amount of power difference makes it worth marching. Stop eyeballing Fire Crystal levels and read the map.

Where our numbers come from, and where they do not

Our Furnace and Fire Crystal cost tables are the one part of this topic Century Games has never published. We built them by comparing independent reference tables and keeping only values that agreed, and we label them 📚 Cross-checked rather than publisher text for exactly that reason. Everything on this page — the unlock condition, the buildings-versus-troops difference, the refund split, and the targeting rule — is the publisher's own English wording, linked below.
