Whiteout Survival — hero tier list and free-to-play guide
Which heroes to raise, what the next Furnace level costs, and what to do today.
Publisher: Century Games · Genre: Survival strategy · Last checked: 2026-07-31
Three questions this page answers: which heroes are worth your shards, what the next Furnace level actually costs, and what you should be doing today. Nothing else.
Every English term here comes from Century Games' own English text — the help centre and the Google Play listing. Where we could not confirm the publisher's English name for something, we leave it out and say so rather than invent one. That is why you will not find the premium currency named anywhere on this page.

📖 Guides
Guides marked 🏛 Publisher's own English text quote Century Games directly. Guides marked 📚 Cross-checked are numbers the publisher has never released, which we compiled by comparing independent reference tables and keeping only the values that agreed. 🏆 Hero tier list
This is not a power ranking, and you should be suspicious of any Whiteout Survival tier list that claims to be one. Which hero generation you can pull depends on how many days old your State is, so no single ranking applies to every server. What follows is an investment order for free-to-play chiefs. S = raise these stars now. A = the Gen 13–16 core once your State unlocks it. B = older generations that still hold up. C = early-server only, or economy heroes that never fight.

📅 Event schedule
Times are UTC and countdowns run on your device clock. Start times drift by a few hours between States, so check the in-game notice for anything you are planning around. Schedules and entry conditions were re-checked against Century Games' English help centre on 2026-07-29.
Daily reset
Daily missions, Intel and stamina all reset at 00:00 UTC. Anything unclaimed at that moment is gone.
State of Power
Preparation opens Monday 00:00 UTC and runs about five and a half days. The cross-State fight is Saturday 10:00–22:00 UTC.
Alliance Championship
Starts Monday 00:00 UTC. Requires Furnace Lv 10 and at least 10 registered alliance members — both stated by Century Games.
Beast Hunting
Members above R4 start it. Century Games' English article says you must have been in your alliance more than 46 hours to be eligible; the Korean edition of the same article describes a 3-day cooldown after hunting instead. The 47.5-hour cadence is a community figure.
Alliance Mobilization
Runs Monday to Saturday, with a base allowance of 9 missions and extras purchasable with Gems. Century Games states the alliance needs 15 or more members and the player needs Personal Furnace Lv. 10.
Frostfire Mine
A solo event every two weeks with six time slots, open to Furnace Lv 16 and above. Registration opens 10 minutes before a slot and you may switch freely. Position, Gathering stats and Marching Speed do not apply inside.
Canyon Clash
Monthly, not weekly. Voting Sat–Sun, registration Mon–Tue, matchmaking Wed, battle Thursday. Your alliance must be top 20 on the Alliance Power Leaderboard and each legion needs 15 combatants and substitutes.
Foundry
Two days of voting, two of registration, two of matchmaking, then a one-hour battle. The requirement is a top-20 Alliance Power ranking before voting starts — not Furnace Lv 16.
Crazy Joe
Furnace Lv 7 and an alliance to join; R4 and above start it. After 2 failed defences Crazy Joe stops attacking you. The 40-minute / 20-wave figures are community numbers, not published.
Fortress Battles
Troops actually die here rather than being injured — but so do troops in Lv. 4 Facility battles, so this is not the only place it happens. Needs 20+ alliance members to sign up.
Mercenary Prestige
Irregular schedule. Difficulty is chosen per monster.
Fishing Tournament
Every four weeks, runs three days. You start with 5 bait and regain one every 3 hours up to a maximum of 10.
❓ Questions
Which hero should a free-to-play player raise first?
Jessie. She is cheap, she is free, and the way rallies work means a low-rarity hero with a strong first skill contributes almost as much as an expensive one when you join. After her: Molly to 4 stars, then Seo-yoon for rally joining, then Sergey for garrison.
Is there a single best hero tier list for Whiteout Survival?
No, and that is not evasion. The hero generations available to you depend on how old your State is, so a list built on a 400-day server is actively misleading on a 40-day one. Any list that does not tell you this is guessing. Ours is ordered by what to spend on next, which does transfer between servers.
What is the Furnace and why does everything stop without it?
The Furnace is the central building. Every other building is capped at the Furnace's level, so a Furnace upgrade is never a wasted upgrade. After Lv 30 it continues as Lv 30-1 to 30-4 and then as Fire Crystal 1 to 10. Full cost table is in the guides above.
Why do I lose fights against players with less power?
Usually troop ratio. Units attack the front row first, so a squad short on Infantry gets its Marksmen exposed early. The other common cause is hero skills, which Century Games confirms are calculated during battle and never shown in the battle report.
Do I lose troops permanently when I lose a battle?
It depends on the battle type. In player City battles, 35% of the attacker's casualties die outright. In Sunfire Castle battles, casualties fill the Infirmary first and only start dying once it is full. Fortress Battles are the alliance event where troops genuinely die.
Where do I enter a Gift Code?
On Android, inside your profile under Settings. On iOS there is no in-game field at all — use the official Gift Code Center at wos-giftcode.centurygame.com.
Why does this page not list any Gift Codes?
Because we have not redeemed any ourselves. Every codes page you have already visited copied its list from the page before it, which is why they are all expired. We would rather show you an empty section than waste your time.
Can I switch alliances during Alliance Showdown?
Not without losing something. Century Games states that only members in the alliance at the start of the matchmaking phase — UTC 23:00, Sunday — can earn Alliance Points for it or be ranked. If you already switched, returning to your previous alliance restores your ability to earn for it, and your own points and Daily Chest Personal Points survive the move. Points banked in the other alliance never count toward your original score.
Why can’t my alliance enter Alliance Championship?
Almost always the headcount. On top of the personal requirement — Furnace Lv. 10 and alliance membership — the publisher requires that at least 10 Alliance members register. If fewer sign up, the whole alliance sits the event out no matter how strong its members are.
Can I change my Mercenary Prestige difficulty after picking it?
No. The publisher’s wording is that the difficulty cannot be changed while the event is ongoing, and the next difficulty only unlocks in the next season after you clear the current one. Pick the highest difficulty you are confident of clearing.
Is a 4-star Epic really better than a 1-star SSR?

🧮 Calculators
Pick where you are and where you want to be. Everything recalculates as you type, and nothing you enter leaves your browser.
🔥 Furnace upgrade calculator
Pick where you are and where you want to be. Adds up resources, Fire Crystal and raw build time for everything in between, all the way to Fire Crystal 10.
Build time is the raw figure with no construction speed bonus and no speedups applied — short early levels round to 0 days. These are not published by Century Games; they are cross-checked reference values.
⏱️ Speedup total
Add up what you are actually holding before a State of Power preparation phase opens. Most chiefs are holding more than they think.
🕳 Numbers the publisher does not publish
Century Games does not publish these numbers, so this site does not print them either. Where another site states them confidently, the source is not the publisher.
- How far we verified the wording. Gems (premium currency), SSR / SR / R (rarity), Meat, Wood, Coal, Iron (basic resources) and the Gen 6 troop types each match across two or more independent references — but they are not first-party strings and we have not matched them against a screenshot of the English client. Century Games' own help centre never names the premium currency.
- Furnace and Fire Crystal costs are not published by Century Games. Ours agree across independent references, but they are not first-party figures and we label them that way.
- Mercenary Prestige drop rates and the Elite Monster timer. Asked why the Alliance Boss keeps paying Epic Hero Shards, Century Games answers only that rewards are random — no drop table has been published. The help centre also warns that a summoned Alliance Elite Monster has a time limit without saying how long it lasts, so we repeat the publisher’s advice to summon when members are online rather than inventing a number.
- Alliance Showdown scoring and auto-advance. The publisher gives the two times that matter — matchmaking at UTC 23:00 Sunday and reward dispatch at UTC 12:00 Sunday — and the eligibility rules around switching alliances, but not the points each mission awards, the Star Rating thresholds, or what causes an alliance to be granted auto-advance. The eleven-hour “safe window” we describe for transferring is our reading of those two published times, not a rule stated by the publisher. All local-time conversions on that page are ours.
- The Squad Power formula. Century Games says only that Squad Power is derived from a special formula based on your Hero Power and Troop Level, and has never published the formula. Alliance Championship tier reward contents are likewise unpublished, so we do not list them.
- The hero roster itself is not published. Century Games does not release a list of heroes or generations anywhere in its help centre. Our generation table is compiled from independent reference sites, keeping only entries that agreed; generations 13–16 rest on the thinnest sourcing and a 17th generation is claimed by some references and not others, so we left it out.
- Role rankings are opinion. Best rally lead, best garrison hero and so on come from guide sites, not from the publisher and not from player forums. We keep only names that recur across several independent sites, but there is no official ranking to check them against.
How the numbers here are checked
Every number on this page was read off a live account in the game, and every page carries the date it was last checked. Where the publisher does not publish a number, this site does not print one.
On wording
English on this page comes from the publisher's own English client. The Korean edition is written separately from the Korean client — neither one is a translation of the other, because the two editions use different words for the same thing.
